In the mid 1980s, when the Natural Resource Commission and the Department of Natural Resources tried to illegally bypass the legislature to put mourning doves on the list of game, the Michigan Humane Society stepped forward and defended the constitutional rights of the people of the state of Michigan with a successful lawsuit against the NRC/DNR for constitutional violations.
Since then, the NRC and DNR officials violated the permanent court ordered injunction several times.
